Episode 71 – Reigning is your Identity

Concluding our series on Created to Reign

We are concluding on our series on Created to Reign in this episode. So far, we have seen that God’s purpose for creation has always been for His children to rule and reign over all creation. Although Adam turned the power of dominion over the earth to the devil as a result of which we lost the power to reign over the earth, we have seen that God restores our authority to have dominion over the earth to us when we are redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ.

In the last episode we saw that God, having given us that authority to rule and reign, went further to equip us with the tools we need to reign on earth. He has empowered us with His Spirit and His Word which are the power and sword we need to reign over the earth.

This scripture declares that God has spoken into your life the authority to reign in life by granting you the two gifts of- the abundance of His grace and the gift of righteousness which embolden you to reign.

The Core Question

The topic we are considering today is whether you have received the authority to reign; whether you have taken possession of your authority; whether you are relying on the power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God to reign in life. Or are you leaving those provisions of God for you latent and allowing life to happen to you.

Your New Identity in Christ

Let me reiterate-When you came to Christ and received salvation, you became a brand new person in your inner man. You received a new identity. According to 2 Corinthians 5:17, because you are in Christ, you are a new creature: your old identity has given way; you are now a new person with a new identity rooted in Christ.

Revelation 5:10 declares this position of believers as Kings. It says-“You have made them to be a kingdom of kings and priests and they will reign upon the earth. This position is an inheritance that we received by redemption which cannot be taken away from us.”

What Does It Mean to Reign as a King?

The word reign means to have kingly rule and to possess Kingly dominion; to reign in life as a king. Based on the authority of God’s Word, you are destined to “reign in life” as a king, to have dominion over all your challenges and circumstances. You are called to be above them all, and not be trampled by them.

A king sits on his throne and reigns from there. He reigns with his staff of office in his hands. He does not abdicate his throne when challenges confront him. Rather he makes his proclamation and raises his staff of office as his official seal to his proclamation. God has granted us the authority of kings to reign with him. Our staff of office is His Word. We proclaim His Word into situations and circumstances and we are to keep holding His Word up until something happens.

Spiritual Reality vs Physical Reality

Like I have pointed out elsewhere, the difficulty most of us face in our Christian lives is as a result of the fact that we do not understand the truth that the divine nature of God and the pronouncement that we have been given new identities happen only in our spirits; that our physical realities remain the same.

In order to reign with Christ, you need to draw your authority to reign and dominate the earth from the spiritual realm into the physical realm.

The Process of Transformation

I cannot stop emphasizing that the process of drawing out that your identity in Christ and in this case that kingly personality that God has deposited in the spiritual into the physical realm, is rooted in the consistent and continuous study, meditation and retaining in your heart the word of God.

You need to spend enough time in the Word of God for the Holy Spirit to transform your mindset from that of an ordinary person to that of a person with a kingly, authoritative and bold mindset through that Word.

Exercising Your Delegated Authority

Jesus tells us in James to submit to God; to resist the devil, and he would flee from us. He has given us Believers power and authority to resist the devil, to stand up to his attempts to attack us and to reign with Him. We resist the devil by consistently professing the Word of God in our hearts.

But the truth is that most of us are not reigning in Christ because we have not taken time to understand what it takes to reign in Christ.

God has given us the authority to reign in His name. But most times we ignore the fact that He has delegated the authority to reign to us and we keep asking Him to do things He has given us authority to do. The authority has been delegated to us. You are the one to reign; to resist the devil; to bind; to lose; to speak to the sickness and the circumstance in the name of Jesus.

Most times when I hear people pray, they ask God to do it. But God has given us the authority and He does not violate the authority He has given to us. When we refuse to exercise the authority He has given to us, His hands are tied. He declares in Ps 89:34 -“I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered.”

So we need to take our place and exercise the authority God has given to us because if we do not, we cannot reign in life.

Part of your identity in Christ is that you have been given the authority to reign in this life. If you are allowing life to just happen to you, then you are not living in the reality of your identity in Christ.
