Our Identity in Christ Pt 3
Episode 17
Our topic for today is Identity in Christ Pt 3.
We saw in our last episode that it is absolutely necessary that we get a revelation of
who we are in Christ; and that we can only do this by looking steadily into the mirror of
the word of God. We saw in Episode 16 that the word of God is the mirror by which we
look into the spiritual. If you have not listened to Episode 16, please go back and listen
to that Episode first so that this teaching will be meaningful to you.
In this Episode we are going to look at the process of embracing our identity in Christ
and drawing our rights, privileges and position as children of God from the spiritual into
our physical circumstances.
After we are born again with our spirit changed, our walk with God becomes a process
of getting our souls and bodies to change gradually so as to align with our spirits. The
Christian walk is a process of getting those things the word of God says about you to
flow from the spirit into the soul-your mind, your body and the rest of your physical
circumstances.
The process of drawing out that perfect person that God has made in His image in the
spiritual into the physical realm, is rooted in the consistent and continuous study of the
word of God; like one gazing into a mirror. That constant gazing into the mirror of the
Word of God gradually transforms our thinking, lives and circumstances into what we
see in the mirror.
In John 6:63 Jesus tells us…. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are
life. Jesus meant here that His words have supernatural power and that
the Spirit of God acts through them to give life. Mind you that when I
talk about the Word of God, I do not mean the Book or the Bible in our
hands; or the letters. I mean the message behind the word.
The word of God is powerful and transformational and changes situations when we give
time to it. When we read the word of God, the Holy Spirit slowly transforms us through
that Word.
Our minds are similar to computers in the sense that they are programmed. Our old sin
nature, the nature we had before we were regenerated programmed our minds to be
selfish, bitter, angry, greedy, to generally exhibit ungodly and evil characteristics. When
we are born again, we become totally new in our spirits, our sin nature dies; it is dead
and gone, but it left behind a soul that is programmed to obey the sin nature. That soul
will continue to function as programmed until we reprogram it. This is what the Bible
means when it says in Romans 12:1 that we should not conform any longer to the
pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
As we read the word of God, our mind is gradually transformed to conform to our spirit.
And once our mind begins to conform to the word of God, the outward part of us, our
body has no option than to obey the instruction of the mind.
So the ultimate way to get the soul and body to yield to the spirit is not by making rules
and regulations and sanctions. It is by gradually changing the hearts of people. This can
only be achieved by the word of God.
Victory in the Christian life is as simple as renewing our minds to who we are and what
we have already received in Christ.
To live in God’s perfect will you must renew your mind. You must learn to live from the
inside out. There is no other way to live victoriously. There is no short cut. People have
tried all sorts of shot cuts but it never lasts.
