Episode 70-Equipped To Reign

We are still on our series on Created to Reign. We have seen that God’s purpose for creation has always been for His children to rule and reign over all creation. Adam turned this incredible power to reign over the earth to the devil. And in this state of weakness and under condemnation, it became impossible for man to reign! He lost the power to reign over the earth.

But in the last episode, we saw how God restored our original relationship of having dominion over the earth and reigning with Him by granting us the abundance of His Grace and the free gift of righteousness which sets us free from weakness and condemnation and emboldens us to reign with Him.

In addition to granting us the authority and license to rule and reign with Him when we are redeemed by His blood, Jesus goes further to enable and equip us with the weapons and tools we need to reign with Him. In this episode we are going to consider the ways in which He has equipped us to reign with Him.

The Power of God’s Word

Firstly, it is not hidden knowledge that God spoke the world into existence by His Word. The Word of God is the power that sustains all existence. According to Hebrews 1:3, God upholds all things by His Word. It is the power of His Word that sustains the entire universe. Nothing in the world exists without the Word of God. He made all things by His Word. We exist because He spoke us into being. He reigns and sustains dominion over the world by His Word. He restored us to our original position by His spoken Word. He delegated His authority to rule and reign over the earth to us by His Word. And He equipped us to reign with Him by declaring His Word.

“To reign with Him, we must stand on His word, declare it and act on it. To reign with Christ is to say what His word says about any situation and to resist any temptation to question it or contradict it.”

My experience is that most Christians only have a mental assent and not an experiential belief in the word of God. But without a firm belief and agreement with the Word of God, we cannot rule or gain dominion over our circumstances. Believing the Word of God without doubt is the key to reigning with Him.

Renewing the Mind for Reign

So to reign with Christ, you need to renew your mind until your mindset comes into complete alignment with the word of God. This is something that cannot take place in one day. You cannot renew your mind so as to change your mind set and reign with Christ by being a Sunday –Sunday Bible Scholar or by confessing after the Prayer Leader once a week. In order to reign with Christ on earth, and to conquer those negative situations that challenge your position as a joint heir with Jesus Christ, you have to study, meditate, assimilate and believe the word of God.

To believe the word of God means to have confidence in it; to have faith in it; to be convinced; to accept; to affirm, to have no doubt; to be rest assured; to swear by it; to take it as gospel truth.

The Power of Confession

Romans 10.10 says-It is with your heart that you believe and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith. To reign in life, we must confess the word continuously. Confession is affirming something we believe. It is testifying to those things that we now know and believe from studying the word of God.

Hebrew 3:1 describes Christianity as the great confession, while Hebrew 4:14 urges us to hold fast to our confession of salvation through Jesus the Son of God.

And we must have one confession about every circumstance. We cannot have a different confession in the face of apparent contradictions, because it is our constant confession and watering that will bear fruit and change any negative situation.

Effectual Prayer for Reign

The second weapon for reigning with Christ is prayer. And I mean effectual prayers that are based on an intimate, one on one personal relationship with God, not on religious rituals and empty repetitions. We reign in life by making prayer a part of our everyday lives because we enjoy the presence of God, and not only when difficult circumstances arise. The prayer of a child of God who is reigning with Him is the prayer that responds to His Word not what the circumstances are saying.

God does not respond to our emotions. It doesn’t matter that you cried all night; or woke up at midnight to pray; or went for 7 days deliverance. Neither does it matter that we place the CV of our good deeds before Him-How many times we fasted or came to Church; how we went to the Motherless Babies Home to celebrate our birthday. It will all be in vain if you are not placing His word before Him.

Resisting the Devil

When a situation confronts your right to reign, you need to find the word of God that is applicable to the situation, read it over and over and continue speaking that word to the situation. You should never underestimate the power of the tongue. James 1:5 says-the tongue is a great member and boasts great things. Proverbs 18: 21 says that death and life are in the power of the tongue.

James 4:7-8 states- “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you”. To resist the devil means to refuse to give in to the devil and the circumstance. The devil will resist the word of God by raising false arguments in your heart. He will try to scare you by making you focus on the circumstance rather than on the word of God.

The Holy Spirit’s Role in Reign

We reign on earth by recognizing the presence, power and anointing of the Holy Spirit. From the moment we give our lives to Christ, the Holy Spirit comes into us and begins to dwell inside of us. The Holy Spirit reveals the mind of the Father, teaches us, counsels us and guides us through the word of God. As our relationship with Him grows, the Holy Spirit would guide us and prompt us. He will sometimes speak directly to us. This is called the inward witness. He will also help us pray, praise and fellowship with the Father. Without a relationship with the Holy Spirit, you cannot reign on earth. He is our helper, enabler, protector and power house.

Romans 8:2 says-And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

Apostle Paul highlighted in Romans 7 that the Spirit of God now lives within us and has given us the power to live new lives, and the enablement to grow in our faith and the knowledge of God which will help us to reign on earth.

Brethren we have been empowered to reign with Christ, by the Spirit of God. We have been equipped by the word of God which never fails. We need to stand firm in His word by constantly renewing our minds, confessing the truth of His word in every situation, praying His word and resisting every attempt to deny His word.

This way, we would have dominion over challenging and difficult circumstances and reign with Him as kings and priests.
