Today we shall recap and round up on our series on the Power of Blessing and Cursing.
The focus of this series has been that injunction of the Lord in Exodus 30:19 – I have set
before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your
children may live. We have emphasized and re-emphasized the need to choose life by
our choice of words; the need to speak blessings into our lives and circumstances on a
routine basis; the need to resist and overcome attempts to introduce negative
circumstances into our lives by speaking words of blessings and lastly the power to use
our tongues to reverse curses placed on our lives by speaking words of blessings into
our lives to counteract the curses.
In this Episode we shall look at a fundamental aspect and what I describe as the root
from where the ability to use our tongues as a weapon to bless our lives and
circumstances springs up. We shall consider the topic-Bless From the abundance of the
Heart.
For those promises of God I have been encouraging us to speak to be effective and to
actually release the blessings of God into our lives, we must be speaking from a heart of
belief.
Romans 10:10 states-For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified; and it is
with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Proverbs 23:7 states-as a
man thinketh in his heart, so is he.
Remember the story in Acts 19 when the 7 sons of Sceva attempted to cast out evil
spirits in the name of Jesus by imitating Paul. The evil spirits confronted them saying-
Jesus I know. Paul I know, but who are you?
My objective in the last four Episodes of encouraging you to speak the word of God into
your life in order to bless your circumstances or to reverse curses placed over your life
is not to use the words of God carelessly or to use them as incantation. Far from it.
For the word of God we speak into our lives today to transform into blessings of
fruitfulness tomorrow, we must nurture our personal relationships with God so that He
knows us by name. We must obey the instruction of Romans 12:2 to be transformed
into our true identity in Christ by renewing our minds by His word. We must faithfully
plant the word of God into our lives by consistently studying, meditating and confessing
them.
Do you know that you cannot truly change your words unless you change your mindset.
The journey of blessing your life starts from the mind. So you need to spend time to
study and meditate on the word of God, so that the word of God will become ingrained
in your heart; so that your mindset would gradually come into alignment with the word of
God; and so that you can speak into your life and circumstances from a place of belief
and certainty in the word of God.

So you need to be intentional about speaking positive words over your life. You need to
determine to be conscious of your words. It may not be easy initially but with time you
will get used to it.
One very effective way of getting the word of God ingrained in your heart is to speak it
out. Confess God’s promises to yourself. Psalm 45:2 states-My tongue is the pen of a
ready writer. So when you are confessing the scriptures with your tongue, you are
writing them in your heart.
You can also consider having a journal where you write down the promises of God as
you read the Bible. I have a journal where I record the promises of God to me and I
recite them on a daily basis. This is even easier now that you can use your lap top or
other devices to record God’s promises.
To recap our series on the power of blessing and cursing, we need first of all to study
the scriptures to the extent that we discover who we are in Christ and have a revelation
of God’s plans and purposes for our lives and our authority in Christ so that we are
equipped to counter any attempt to dispossess us of our privileges and rights or to keep
us in bondage- by speaking God’s promises of blessings into our lives.
Our weapon against challenges and curses is our confession of the word of God –the
promises of God and Christ’s accomplished works at the Cross of Calvary. This weapon
should be used against every negative situation we are facing including sicknesses,
financial lack, anxiety, unexplainable deaths in a family, poverty circle etc. Find as many
scriptures as possible concerning your particular situation. Meditate on them until your
mind aligns with the mind of God on that situation. Confess and keep confessing the
word of God consistently and faithfully. It may take time but I assure you, you would
experience a turn around. As long as you don’t uproot your confessions of God’s
blessings by making negative confessions.
Now on the question do I mean we do not need to subject ourselves to deliverance
sessions in order to reverse the effects of curses in our lives, the answer to that
question depends entirely on you.
The word deliverance is also described as release; rescue; discharge; redemption and
so forth. When you have succeeded in turning around any plan or attempt of the enemy
to dispossess you of your rights and privileges or to keep you in bondage by speaking
the promises of God into the situation, then you have received deliverance! You have
been rescued. What you have accomplished by consistent confession of the word of
God is self deliverance.
But you may also choose to subject yourself to a deliverance session where an
anointed and powerful man or woman of God may administer deliverance to you relying
on their own faith and authority of the word of God. This is good too,
However, even in a situation where you choose to subject yourself to deliverance by a
man of God, the need to continue to faithfully plant the word of God into your life by

consistently studying, meditating and confessing them so that the word of God may
become ingrained in your heart cannot be dispensed with.
I have experienced situations where people have been for deliverance several times
over one issue. This is because such people did not renew their hearts and ingrain the
word of God enough in their hearts in order to sustain the deliverance administered on
them.
In Matthew 12:43-45 Jesus said to the scribes and Pharisees, “When an unclean spirit
goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. [44] Then
he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it
empty, swept, and put in order. [45] Then he goes and takes with him seven other
spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of
that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”
In this parable, Jesus explained to His listeners that when an evil spirit is cast out of a
man, it goes in search of another person to torment. If it does not find another home, it
goes back to check out its previous home. And if it finds its previous home unoccupied,
it goes and finds 7 other spirits more wicked than itself and takes them to occupy its
previous home.
Jesus is counseling us in this scripture that we should never leave our hearts void,
unoccupied or empty. Even after we have been successfully delivered of evil spirits or
any curse, whether by self deliverance or by a man of God, we have to continue to
faithfully renew our minds by planting the word of God into our lives, communing with
the Holy Spirit and having an active prayer life. Otherwise the problem will continue
recurring if we allow emptiness in our hearts.

As we come to the end of our series on the Power of Blessings and Cursing, I
encourage you to study and meditate on the word of God and let it be ingrained in your
heart that so that you are firmly equipped to counter any attempt to dispossess you of
your privileges and rights or to keep you in bondage- by speaking God’s promises of
blessings into your life.
