We are continuing with our series on the theme- The Power of Blessing and Cursing.
You would recall that in our last Episode we considered how we can ensure that we are
speaking blessings and positivity into our lives and environment on routine and every
day circumstances-when we are not dealing with any challenges or trying to resist the
devil.
In this Episode we shall consider the topic-Bless To Resist Negativity.
So while in our last Episode we looked at the need to speak blessings into our lives on a
routine basis when we are not facing any challenges; in Today’s Episode we shall look
at how to resist and overcome the devil when he comes against us with his attacks and
challenges by speaking words of blessings.
Our world and environment has increasingly become volatile and evil. Satan throws
everything he can on the Children of God in order to discourage us and especially get
us to turn away from the Bible. But the fact is that Satan has been at this from the
beginning and will not give up until the end of the world so we must be prepared to
resist him whenever he comes against us.
Revelations 12:11 declares that we defeat the devil by the blood of the lamb and the
words of our testimony. This scripture reveals to us that in addition to the Blood of
Jesus, we defeat and overcome the devil by testifying to the blessings of our Lord
through the words we speak. We overcome the devil by our testimony about the
goodness and blessings of God in our lives.
When I was explaining the word blessing in Episode 41, I said that the word blessing
also means to appreciate God. When you are thanking and appreciating God; praising
Him and worshipping Him, you are drawing the unconditional love and Grace of God
into your life and environment. So you are blessing yourself. You are also resisting the
devil because one of the devil’s nemesis is a Christian who knows how to praise God.
The devil is afraid of a Christian who makes praising God a way of life.
Now, when you are living a life of praise and speaking the blessings of God’s word into
your life, the first thing to take care of when the devil attacks is- do not panic. I know this
may be difficult and easier said than done, but remember we started by referring to
Revelations 12:11 which states that we overcome the devil by the words of our
testimony. This topic is all about using the words of our testimony and the fruit of our
lips to overcome the devil’s attack. So yes, in order to stay calm and avoid panic, go to
the scriptures and bless your life with the words of the scriptures assuring you of God’s
presence and protection over your life. Bless yourself with the words of Isaiah 41:10-
Declare that scripture like this
I do not fear, for the Lord is with me; I will not be dismayed, for He is my God. He will
strengthen me and help me; He will uphold me with His righteous right hand.

Declare Psalm 27:1- The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The
Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?
Declare Psalm 46:1- God is my refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. [2]
Therefore I will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart
of the sea
Declare Joshua 1:9-[9] I am strong and courageous. I am not afraid; I am not
discouraged, for the Lord my God will be with me wherever you go.
Declare Psalm 18:2-The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer, in whom I take
refuge.
The Lord says in these scriptures and many more that we should not be afraid because
He is our refuge, our deliverer and our fortress and will strengthen us; help us; uphold
us and be with us wherever we go.
A fortress is impenetrable and indestructible so a person who has God as his fortress is
in a very safe place. When you declare these scriptures, you are resisting the devil with
God’s blessings of deliverance and protection over your life.
A child of God who knows the word of God would always be able to resist the devil in
his strategies by calling God’s blessings of deliverance into his life. Apostle Paul said to
the Corinthian Church in 2 Corinthians 2:11-so Satan will not outsmart us. For we are
familiar with his evil schemes. You need to be familiar with the strategies of the devil
which is mainly lies and deceit.
The most important truth we need to know about the devil and his attacks is that Jesus
already defeated him on our behalf. Jesus has already won the victory for us. The devil
knows this so his only strategy against you is deceit and lies. This truth is our greatest
blessing which you must declare nonstop over your life when the devil tries to attack
you. He needs to hear it over and over and to be left with no doubt that you know that
Jesus has defeated him on your behalf.
So you must confess that Jesus has blessed you by defeating the devil on your behalf
and by making a show of him in public. You must confess that the Blood of Jesus avails
you and that with it you overcome the devil.
Then depending on the devil’s area of attack, find out as many scriptures as you can in
the word of God about the situation and bless yourself repeatedly with the words of
those scriptures. If the devil is trying to attack your health by placing sickness on your
body, bless your body by speaking words of healing over your body. If he is trying to
attack your finances, bless your finances by speaking words of favour over your
finances. The words -I am healed by the stripes of Jesus are words of blessing over
your body. The words -Christ has met all my needs according to His glory in Christ

Jesus and the words- even when there is a casting down I am lifted up are words of
blessing over your finances.
The Bible is replete with the promises of God’s blessings which are available to us to
use to bless ourselves and others. The struggle to resist the devil would most likely be
easier for those who have been speaking blessings into their lives for long periods. But
we must not forget that the devil is stubborn. So like I said in Episode 36, don’t expect
the devil to turn and run immediately you start resisting him by blessing yourself. He will
resist the word of God by trying to make you focus on the circumstance rather than on
the word of God. But you must resist him by standing your ground. Stand your ground.
Bless yourself. The devil is the liar so he is the one who should give up, not you! You
will see in Genesis 3:2-3, that Eve actually quoted the word of God to the serpent. But
when the serpent misquoted the Word of God to her, she did not resist. She believed
his lie and gave up.
Finally, when you have spoken words of blessing into your life and circumstances,
conclude by rebuking the devil. Command him to let go of your inheritance. When the
devil realises that you know the truth about your identity in Christ and all that Jesus has
done for you, he will obey you when you rebuke him. A person who knows who he is in
Christ rebukes the devil with confidence and authority. But those who do not know who
they are in Christ lack confidence when they speak to the devil. A person who
understands his identity in Christ knows that as I said earlier, Jesus has already won the
victory for us and we don’t need to struggle with the devil. We just need to command
him to release the possessions that Jesus has already purchased for us. Those who do
not know who they are in Christ on the other hand speak to the devil without authority.
Sometimes they even plead with the devil.
