We are still dissecting the theme- The Power of Blessing and Cursing. Like you know
the focus of this series is the desire for us to choose life by speaking words of blessing
into our lives and circumstances.
In this Episode we shall look at the topic-Bless To Reverse Curses
If you have followed our progress in this series, you would have noticed that we have
graduated from learning to bless in order to create good even when we are not dealing
with any challenges; to blessing in order to resist and overcome challenges; and today
to blessing in order to reverse Curses.
In this Episode, we shall consider how we can overcome long standing, stubborn
issues and challenges in our lives which may be the result of negative words spoken
over our lives, sometimes years ago, again by speaking words of blessing.
Recall that we said in Episode 41 that cursing includes- using profane words,
constantly criticizing, condemning, threatening people; abusing people under your
authority. We have seen the dangers of parents using negative words against their
children. Also murmuring, complaining, criticizing and finding faults with ourselves. Then
of course speaking hate words; desiring and calling down misfortune, evil and
punishment and harsh judgment on others.
You may have seen situations where a person’s dull demeanor and unproductiveness could
likely be traced to the utterances of his parents when he was young. In some cases it is the
norm that people in a family don’t live beyond 40 years. Or that male children in the
family die in their infancy. Sometimes it is believed that the circle of poverty can’t be
broken in a family.
Let’s look briefly at the matter of Curses and their effects on our lives.
The truth is that according to Galatians 3:13, Christ redeemed us from the curse of the
law by becoming a curse for us.
Jesus took all our curses at the Cross. He redeemed His children meaning He released
or rescued His children from all the curses He placed on the Israelites in Deuteronomy
28, including the curse in Exodus 34:7 that the iniquities of the fathers will be visited on
the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation. Galatians 3:13 leaves
us in no doubt that Jesus fully released us from every curse that could ever be placed
on us.
2 Corinthians 5:17 states – if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old
has gone, the new is here! The day you gave your life to Christ, you became a new
person in the spirit. Every spiritual contamination in you was wiped off from your spirit.
You were separated from your past including generational curses.

I will continue to remind us of the injunction in Exodus 30:19 -This day I call the
Heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and
death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.
The fact that we have been redeemed from the curse, means that we have the privilege
to choose life and reject death. It means that if God would not curse us, then no man
should be able to curse us. And if any one decides against the will of God to curse us,
we can speak blessings into our lives to overcome and uproot such curses. Proverbs
26: 2 assures us that the curse causeless shall not come. A curse should not affect us
when we have not done anything wrong
You can counteract the effects of hate or curse words in your life by speaking blessings
into your life.
Recall James 3:3-5- When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey
us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so
large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever
the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great
boasts.
The tongue can be used against you to cause havoc in your life. But just like a bit can
turn the horse around and the rudder can turn the ship around, you can also use the
same tongue to counteract every curse spoken over your life. You can turn those
stubborn problems caused by a curse around. You can overcome them and remove
them by speaking words of blessings. You can counteract the circle of death and
poverty in your family by rejecting and overcoming every word of death spoken into your
heritage and speaking words of life and growth into your heritage.
Isaiah 54:17 states-No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue
which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.
The tongue is a weapon that could be used against you. You also should use your own
tongue as a weapon to condemn, denounce and reject whatever damage another
person’s tongue may do or has done against you. You have a duty to reject every harm
done to your life through a curse by blessing yourself.
Proverbs 14:14 declares that a man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth.
Proverbs 18: 20 states that a man’s stomach shall be satisfied by the fruits of his mouth,
from the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Your words are the fruits of your mouth so
you can turn around wicked words spoken against you and bring good, prosperity and
satisfaction to yourself by causing the fruits of your mouth to be filled with blessings.
We need to start and persist in using our tongues to speak blessings into our lives and
circumstances. It’s only by the words of our mouth that we can pull down the
strongholds of lies and evil communications that hold us in bondage.

There are many Scriptures that we can speak over our lives to overcome curses that
may have been placed over our lives.
For instance-Colossians 1:13-14 – For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption and
the forgiveness of my sins.
So you will declare -He has rescued me from the dominion of darkness and brought me
into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom I have redemption and the forgiveness of
my sins.
Declare according to Isaiah 54:17 that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, And
every tongue that has risen against me in judgment I condemn.
Declare according to Exodus 30:19–As the Lord has set before me life and death, I
choose life, so that I and my children shall live.
The Bible provides more than enough scriptures that we can speak over our lives to
counter any curses and stubborn problems we have experienced over the years. So
depending on what challenges you are facing, find scriptures in the word of God about
the situation and bless yourself repeatedly with the words of those scriptures.
We should always bear in mind that Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the Law.
He has already defeated the devil on our behalf. Colossians 2:15 says…having
disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing
over them in it. He made a show of Him…A curse would only affect us if we do not
counteract it with the fruit of our lips.
However we must note that because we have allowed some curses spoken over our
lives to affect us for long periods, when we start speaking words of blessings over our
lives, we have to be patient for the words we speak to take root and germinate before
we start seeing results.
I am sure, at this stage someone is wondering if I am saying we do not need to subject
ourselves to deliverance sessions in order to reverse curses. We are out of time so we
