The Alignment
Episode 14
The topic of our Conversation today is The Alignment
We saw in Episode 12 that only the spirit of man gets born again. The soul and the body remain the same even after a person gives his life to Christ.
And we saw in Episode 13 that a new Christian has been set free from the law of sin and death; but he has to make a choice to operate under the law of life in Christ Jesus in order to grow spiritually.
From the time we are born again, with our cooperation, the Spirit of God begins the process of getting our flesh and soul to align with our spirit. The Spirit of God does this through the word of God.
The word of God is the instrument through which the Holy Spirit does His work.
Romans 12:1 states thus:
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
The Spirit of God gives life to our body by first working on our minds. When we study the word of God, the Spirit of God slowly reconditions our minds to align it with the word of God and our own spirit which has been transformed. This process is what is meant by the renewal of the mind. And it is a process.
When the mind is being renewed by the word, it is being synchronised with our new nature so that the spirit and mind will begin to think in the same way.
By the time your spirit and your mind are in sync and total agreement, they can then begin the process of subduing the body or the physical senses by speaking the word of God to the body, out of the abundance of the heart.
Let’s take the issue of subduing the flesh as an example: when your mind is synchronised with the word of God that says that you are a new creature; that you now have the nature of God in you; that you have been delivered from the law of sin and death; that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus; that you have dominion over sin; that you will not continue to sin so that grace may abound; that you have authority over the devil and circumstances, you will grasp the fact that you have dominion over every weakness.
When your mind understands and accepts the truth of these provisions of the Bible, you will receive boldness to declare them over your weaknesses.
And once you boldly confess them over your area of weakness consistently, those words will change the circumstance.
For instance, assuming you have an anger problem, when you study the word of God, you will find that it says that as a child of God you have dominion over anger.
Your role is to continue meditating on that word that says you have dominion over anger and confessing it to yourself.
When your mind accepts the truth of the Word of God that says you have dominion over anger and that anger does not control you, you have received the weapon that you need to resist anger.
The weapon is your confession. And your confession on a daily basis should be:
Sin does not have control over me therefore I am free from anger and I have control over my actions.
When the spirit and the mind are united, the mouth will always make the right confession, and the flesh will have no option but to obey.
No circumstance can defy the word of God. But you have to be consistent in your confession.
We can only bring the plans of God into manifestation by speaking His word.
The reason why the word of God is not manifesting in the lives of many Christians is that they try to subdue the flesh by the mind; by self-will.
They decide that it is time to obey the word of God over a particular issue and they start struggling with their self-will to do so.
Some decide it is time to stop smoking or drinking and they start struggling to stop. But it doesn’t work that way.
Only the word of God can change situations. The word of God can do this because it is spirit; it is alive; it is powerful.
Hebrews 4:12-13
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit,
The person who wants to stop smoking should fix the word that says he has dominion over the flesh in his heart and start confessing that he has dominion over nicotine in Jesus’ name.
That word which is life and spirit will deliver him from addiction to nicotine.
