We just concluded with our series on the theme-Free from Condemnation. And in the 4 teachings of that series, we saw that once a person becomes a child of God, God sets him free from the bondage of condemnation. And the Holy Spirit steps in to help him to walk free from condemnation. We were encouraged to key into God’s declaration in Romans 8:1 that there is now no condemnation for those who belong to Jesus Christ. And to lean on the Holy Spirit to help us break free from the weight of Condemnation.We ended that series by concluding that breaking free from Condemnation would allow you discover your identity as a child of God. If you remain under the bondage of condemnation, you can’t fully embrace your identity as a child of God. If you continue to see yourself as guilty, judged, condemned and feel ashamed, then you cannot step into the reality of your identity as a child of God.We had previously had conversations on our Identity in Christ in Episodes 15 to 19, but this subject of our identity in Christ is so fundamental to living out God’s purposes for our lives that we have to keep revisiting it.So our theme for the next set of Episodes is-Embracing our Identity in Christ. Today we are starting with the topic-Confronting the Identity Crises.There is serious identity crisis in the body of Christ today and we do need to confront it.If I were to ask you, “Who are you?” or request you to introduce yourself, you would probably tell me your name, your family background, your educational background, your profession or career. That is probably all you would tell me because this is your perception of who you are. Society wants to identify us by our accomplishments, our profession, our actions, our characteristics, our families and nationalities. Some people go as far as identifying others with the challenges that confront them. You hear people being identified as: divorced, bankrupt, physically challenged, unemployed, childless, sick and so forth.Truly, these external descriptions may be a part of you, but they are not the real you! They may be facts about who you are in the physical today, but ten years down the line, many of these descriptions would probably be different. They are not permanent.Your true and permanent identity is in the God who made you. Your true identity is not in your accomplishments, your challenges or your experiences. It is not in what others say about you or even what you say or feel about yourself. I am not saying that your personal traits, your physical looks and accomplishments are not important. They have a place to play in your life, but they are ephemeral. Their place is secondary. They are temporary. They may change depending on circumstances. But your identity in Christ is deep; it is unchangeable because the Word of God cannot change. It is at the core of who you are. Before you can grow and be all God wants you to be, you must know who are.
