Episode 68-Created to Reign
I trust that you journeyed with me through the last 4 Episodes on –Embracing our Identity in Christ; because we are starting a new series on Reigning in Christ which naturally flows from knowing and understanding your identity in Christ. . So in this new series, we will uncover insights on reigning in Christ with confidence and assurance.
I hope you know- without any doubt that God created us to have power, greatness and dominion?
In Genesis 1:26-28, God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness. Let them rule the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the domestic animals all over the earth, and all the animals that crawl on the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”
God created us in His image to rule over His creation. That was His plan from the very beginning. His plan was for us to represent Him on earth and He transferred all His power, authority, and dominion over the universe to man. He created man on the 7th day. And He handed all He had created in the previous six days over to man to rule and control on His behalf. Whatever man wanted to do with creation, he was free to do. Genesis 2:19-20 states:
“Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.”
Adam had complete authority over God’s creation. Verse 19 above says that whatever Adam called a living creature that became its name. Do you see what happened here?
Adam spoke on God’s behalf. He named the living creatures on God’s behalf. His voice was like the voice of God. Adam had dominion over creation. He reigned over creation by his word. Whatever he called the living creature, that was its name! God delegated His authority over the earth to Adam! Adam reigned over the earth on behalf of God. Unfortunately, man turned this incredible power to reign over the earth to the devil.
Through Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross, God restored man’s authority to reign over the earth. Jesus was punished for the sin of mankind so that all who believe in Him and receive Him would be forgiven; set free from their sin; granted eternal life and receive the power to reign over God’s creation.
We are created in the image and likeness of God with unlimited potential and creativity to have dominion over the earth.
So what is happening in your life? Have you transferred your authority to reign to the devil like Adam and Eve did? Have you abandoned God’s instruction that you should reign in life and pursuing your own way. In the next couple of Episodes, we are going to look at how we can occupy our position to rule and reign in Christ regardless of our environment or in whatever situation find ourselves.
